What the *&^ are you doing?
Sometimes, it’s good to stop and ask yourself that simple question:
“What the *&^ am I doing?”
Asking a question like that wakes you up. It helps you take a fresh look at the things you’re doing.
Are you doing what you want to be doing?
Are you working with clients that energize you and don’t wear you out?
Are you charging the fees you want?
Are you even in the right business?
Well if you aren’t, then why not make a change?
Don’t listen to all of the excuses you’re going to tell yourself about why things are the way they are and why you “can’t” change them. You’re free to tell yourself any story you want, of course. But some stories are better than others. Some are more productive than others. Some push you to help the world and others push you down to wallow in your own misery. You’re the only one running your life, so there’s no one but you to make this decision.
So if there’s something you don’t like about how things are going, CHANGE IT. I always figure, on any particular day, I could walk outside and get hit by a bus.
It’d be a terrible way to go, but thinking about that for a second really clears things up.
It’s easy to get stuck in ruts. It’s easy to think that just because things are a certain way, that you can’t change them to be another way. That’s just a lie we tell ourselves. Granted, some changes are slow, some very quick.
Take the change that Jérémy, a photographer, made with his fees. He’s not even through the entire Rainmaker Letter trial yet and here’s what’s going on with him:
Sorry for my English; I am French
I subscribed to “artofclients” (incomparableexpert now) there is 3 months then “rainmakerletter”
You’re an angel fallen from heaven!
thanks to the woman who shares my life, I (she) doubled my fee in 5 minutes 12,000 € to 25,000 € (payable in advance)… just “because”
Another contract 18000 € on hold and another 10000 € […]
Thank you for everything!
Jérémy
If you’re good at what you do, then you can do business on your terms. But no one’s going to call you and tell you to do it, you have to take charge.
Today is probably a good day to start.
