The Desert of Arizona
Cloudy with Lots of Snow 25 Degrees
So we got quite a bit of snow here in the desert. (Many of you get this amount of snow every week, but understand, we’re living in the desert here!)
I didn’t take the car out for most of the day yesterday. It’s not that I don’t know how to drive in the snow, it’s that no one else around here seems to know!
Soon after the snow started, the accidents were already popping up. And we only have ONE main road through town! But with all of the tourists around for the Holidays, it’s just a bit nuts around this little shire.
The kids have been playing outside and filling our house with a never ending stream of melting snow. Mix that with muddy dog paws and… what little angels we have!
So now that we’re into the New Year, let’s turn our attention to focus and clarity… for you.
So here’s a short exercise. If you want to hit “reply” and send these to me, I’m happy to read them.
This exercise has two steps:
1. Describe the picture of success you have for your business. (If you don’t have this, how will you know when it shows up?)
2. Highlight the things you feel are keeping you from that. What are the obstacles that are standing in your way?
Here’s something to think about:
Instead of asking yourself, “How do I blast through this obstacle…” How about asking yourself: “What is the lesson for me here?”
I was on the phone yesterday with a very wise Rainmaker Advisory Member who reminded me about this. Some people, when faced with an obstacle, will beat their chest and blast through.
While that might be “productive” according to the crazy world, I’m not sure it’s the best way to actually learn anything.
Over the years, I’ve found that treating obstacles like obstacles tends not to be as pleasant as treating obstacles as lessons to be learned. It’s a very empowering way to look at “problems.” They are actually gifts. They are supposed to be there for you.
Once you begin to view them that way, everything changes.
