Muddling Your Way to Success

It took me far longer than I’m willing to admit to figure out that the way I discover what works is to muddle through a long list of things that don’t work.

Doesn’t work.

Doesn’t work.

Doesn’t work.

Doesn’t work.

Works.

That’s about how the process goes. Rinse and repeat.

This path is not for those who are in short supply of patience, mind you. But you DO eventually figure a few things out.

Now I USED to make products and services and then go out and try to sell them.

Didn’t work.

Didn’t work.

Didn’t work.

But then I stumbled onto the platform model and the entire approach changed.

With the platform model, you don’t make things and then find people to buy them.

You find people and make things specifically for those people.

Over time, you get much, MUCH better at making the right choices as you get to know the people you serve. And since the platform keeps spinning, being “wrong” doesn’t kill you. You always get another chance.

This works with products, it works with services, it works with hybrid productized services.

The secret is to specialize in serving a specific GROUP OF PEOPLE with a specific way of looking at their problems and solutions.
