The Desert of Arizona
Hail 41 Degrees
That’s Cleo… aka “The Director.”
My wife rescued her from the shelter recently and… well, she’s a unique one. She’s tiny, she’s quiet, she’s 13 years old.
She can’t really run too quickly, she has no teeth (really) and she’s not going to win any awards for a sleek and shiny coat.
But there’s no dog that’s quite like her. When it comes to “being Cleo,” she’s the winner.
When you’re in the expert business, you really shouldn’t have to try too hard to stick out either.
The fact is, you’re already unique. And the exact approach you take to solve the problems of your clients or customers is just as unique.
But so many experts just emulate what they see others doing instead of offering the marketplace who they really are. As a “copycat,” you go invisible. You blend in. Then you have to pay your way in front of people. Because there’s nothing there that speaks to them in a way that brings them to you.
So if you don’t figure out how to DEMONSTRATE YOU in a leveraged way, you are at a disadvantage.
If you try to convince them that they should hire you, resistance goes up right away.
If you try to rationally explain why you are a good choice, their skeptical meter will spike.
No, the only way to stick out is to demonstrate you in action. Might I suggest some sort of a media platform?
And the only way THAT’S going to work is if it’s actually the real you that you are demonstrating.
Why would I EVER talk about the long list of things I have in my mind that are sure to offend 90% of the people out there?
Because then they go away, and I’m left with a much more intimate gathering of people who resonate with ME.
Make no mistake, you can get to success just as easily by attracting those who are a good fit as you can by repelling everyone who is not.
Either way, you’re left with the same crowd.
But it’s a lot harder if you’re not willing to risk being you out there in the wild.
Take a lesson from Cleo. Life is too short to “lie” about who you are. Being YOU without compromise is the best chance you have of ending up exactly where you’re supposed to be.
