The Land of the Eternally Busy

The Desert of Arizona

Today we ponder a simple question that most service providers don’t think about enough. To be frank, entertaining a question like this CAN be a tad depressing at first… especially if the answers don’t come right away.

It’s much easier to just go back and do all the work you have to do.

Asking this question brings you face to face with an extremely uncomfortable idea that most service businesses suffer with every single day.

That idea is this:

How do you multiply revenue without a commensurate increase in work?

Who was the person who originally connected that chain between work and value? It’s really not true that there’s a 1 to 1 correlation. If you choose to keep that idea, go ahead, but it leads to the Land of the Eternally Busy. Nobody’s got time for coffee there. Everyone is in a rush. It’s not a fun place to be. No one has time for fun… no one has time to be!

So here’s the question that can make sure you never have to visit that land for too long. Don’t worry if the answers don’t come right away. Asking the question causes a shift in your focus so you start seeing things you’ve never seen before.

Here’s the question:

“What would have to happen for you to become more valuable to more people without actually doing more work?”
