I Wonder What He’s Trying to Sell Me This Time

I know that instant authority and instant credibility are sexy ideas to anyone who makes a living as an expert. And I’ve mentioned my opinion before that I think pursuing those things is a dead end. It sells well, but it’s B.S.

What isn’t B.S. is the real thing. Real authority. Real credibility. But how do you build those? They are pretty complicated little creatures.

Today, I offer a SINGLE activity that can do much of the heavy lifting. This activity alone will make you stick out. It will build your credibility. And provided you have something interesting to offer the world, it will keep the attention of your prospective clients.

So what is this secret activity? Well, it’s nothing you have to buy. It doesn’t involve learning a new skill. You don’t even need to be all that intelligent to do it!

It’s simply a decision you make and stick with:

You can’t just show-up in front of your prospects when you want something.

This is what many people do. All those people that send you emails when their next launch is coming around. Those are the people I’m talking about. I’m not sure why they haven’t figured it out yet. Maybe they will, maybe they won’t. I don’t know.

What I DO know is how I feel when I get their emails. I was going to count how many of the emails in my box qualify as this type, but I don’t really have any like that to count. I’ve unsubscribed or learned to ignore the senders. That’s the response you usually get when you only show up when you want something.

If your first thought when the email comes into your inbox is, “I wonder what he’s trying to sell me THIS time…” then that’s a clue the sender is doing it wrong. Do you want your prospective clients feeling that about you? That’s hardly conducive to high fees and working on your own terms.

Instead, figure out a way (I might suggest creating a media platform!) to show up in front of your prospects more often than just when you want something.

Experts and authorities ATTRACT, they don’t corner prey in a room with no exit.
