Mountains of Arizona
Cloudy 61 Degrees
1:31 p.m.
On most days, I have little to no idea what the next step for me is.
For example, I had no idea at 4:43 this morning that I would wake up to discover the world’s loudest alarm going off letting me know that the plumbing system was clogged and I was moments away from Noah’s Flood 3.0 in the basement.
What is Jason doing today? Who knows?
The universal joke is not lost on me that I can (and do!) spend my days giving clarity and direction to others but when I look on my own map, I get BLANK. Ha Universe, good one!
10 years ago, this would have been an inconceivable and incompatible condition with anything remotely looking like “success” to me.
These days, I chuckle at how clueless I was 10 years ago.
I also get excited to hopefully find out, at some point in the future, just how clueless I am NOW about a whole new set of things I can’t see yet!
What do people do when they don’t know what the next step is? Most people do nothing.
This is not only the wrong choice, it’s the exact opposite of the right choice.
If you’re looking to “find your path,” I’ve got good news!
You’re on it right now.
Don’t know what the next step is?
Stop looking, start walking.
In life, there’s a lot to learn from others but there’s absolutely NO ONE to follow for what you seek.
If you’re doing anything close to important work, there’s no model to follow, there’s no instruction book, there’s no path that’s already laid out for you.
That’s why you’re here. The path you’re here to walk is waiting for you to make it.
Not knowing what’s next for you is not a problem.
Allowing your fear of taking a next step to send you searching for someone to tell you what to do is the problem.
Learning is valuable. Asking for advice is valuable.
But giving up the responsibility for driving your vehicle while you sit and wait for great things to go past the window, not valuable.
Developing the capacity to carry unknowing and still WALK is what power looks like.
You can do it.
