We humans sure are fascinating creatures!
And one of the most fascinating parts about us is that we’ve all got an entire reality going on inside of us that no one else knows about. It’s our own little make believe landscape about how we think the world works and where we fit into that.
Our internal landscape is full of emotion and thoughts and dreams and hopes and fears all mixed together. It’s an emotional cocktail party 24/7.
One of the places that often works against us is when we settle onto a path in our work.
Back when I got started, I thought that once I found my path to success, everything would click and off I’d go.
No one really said that success isn’t something you find, it’s something you build. It’s actually the benefit you receive AFTER you’ve done all the work required to become valuable to a certain group of people long enough for them to notice.
But I was too busy looking for success to sit down and do the work!
If you are constantly changing, constantly reinventing, it’s really difficult for the world to keep up with you.
So you have to ask yourself what you are most interested in achieving?
Do you want the emotional hit that comes with NEW and the excitement that is generated when you have big plans for what’s coming? That’s an exciting time for your emotions!
Or do you want to make an impact on the world?
Real impact takes time. And that means you have to work at something–the SAME THING–for a while. Most of that time, you will most likely feel very normal…maybe even bored with yourself!
That’s not a sign to quit, that’s a sign that you’re actually doing the work and getting closer to having your message heard.
I’ve found it’s far smarter to develop a renewed appreciation for your exact position. And then continue on the path.
“Success” doesn’t feel like anything special when you’re living it.
It only looks exciting to the people on the outside who haven’t walked your path.
