Saturday night, my wife gave birth to our sixth child at home.

His first name is True.

I was reminded of something important I want to share with you.

You see, for a long time, I believed a lie. I believed that I had to “get better” in order to be successful.

If you look out into the world of business, you see a lot of people trying to get better.

That’s what the whole self-improvement industry is about. It’s about improving yourself.

The lie I believed is that this is necessary.

Look at that little guy there in the picture. On one level, he is completely helpless and totally dependent on another for survival.

He has no money…

He has no career…

He has no list of achievements…

And he’s certainly not won any awards.

And yet, he possesses a gift that most people in this world don’t. They used to have it, but they’ve forgotten where they put it.

The trick to life isn’t to improve yourself. That’s not necessary unless you believe something’s broken. (It isn’t.)

The trick is to live as yourself.

Those things are totally different.

Pursue “improvement” and you’ll spend the rest of your life chasing something you’ll never catch.

Pursue “understanding” (of who you are and how you operate) and then LIVE that understanding, and success will find YOU. It will happen for your business and it will happen for your life.

Your ability to do THAT is your competitive advantage.

I know this.

My son knows this. That’s the gift he comes into the world with. He is being himself, fully and completely.

But just in case I was about to forget this secret, I received a very clear reminder of it Saturday night. My reminder was about 8 pounds 6 ounces.

And for that I am forever grateful…

See you next time,
