While many people say they want to be different, to differentiate themselves, to stick out from the crowd…it’s not always obvious there’s a price you pay for actually walking down that road.
The system is not created to necessarily reward clarity. So when someone WITH clarity stands up, a few different things can happen:
- Maybe crowds gather around you, stand up and clap. (Has not been my experience!)
- You get ignored and people pretend they didn’t hear or see you.
- You get arrows shot at your head because you make folks uncomfortable.
- And worst case scenario is, you get your head “chopped off” because you became a ready and obvious target for everyone’s unintegrated crap.
Believe it or not, these are all completely logical and rational responses given the way the world is currently setup to work. It’s just the program running how it’s written to run.
The reason it’s important to think this through is because, deep down, I think we know that being truly incomparable (which we ALL are, by the way) comes with some risk in the world today.
And that’s why I think people say they want it but then don’t make the decisions to actually BE that.
This incongruency eats up a lot of energy and doesn’t really get you anywhere.
Being “incomparable” in the business world doesn’t mean you just get more money.
That’s what your brain is thinking when you’re trying to “differentiate.” I know. I’ve been there!
I want to be different, so I get noticed, so I get more and better clients which will bring more money. Yay!
That little voice never talks about the price you pay.
One more thing if you choose this route:
You deal with being alone. Notice I didn’t say lonely. Feeling lonely is a choice. But when you choose “incomparable” and you choose to LIVE that, you will be, by definition, “ALONE” a lot.
This is quite a blessing because it allows you to develop your ability to be OK with YOU.
And once you have that, then you can share it with others. And that will change the world.
Discern what you what, walk towards what you want. Share what that brings you.
