So you can benefit from a “platform” without it even really being seen. You can basically do this in private if you want. And there’s even precedent to show that showing up ONCE a year is enough to create real results. What?
Now it’s not a normal thing where I wake up to the Client Letter having written itself. But it pretty much did today, courtesy of longtime reader, CJ, and the story he sent in about this almost “invisible” platform.
Here’s what CJ sent (Thank You!) about the greatest car salesman ever, Joe Girard:
Before the Internet Joe Girard had the most amazing platform.
You might have heard of him because by the end of his selling career
clients actually had to make appointments to buy cars from him.He was that busy, selling up to 8 cars a day!
Most car salesmen are lucky to sell one car a week.
Yet this guy had lineups all day.
Your letter today reminded me that not everyone is meant to be a media star.
Or a blogger with something to say everyday.
Yet, as you pointed out most of your readers miss the point when it comes
to understanding your platform concept. (a reliable and sturdy connection
between you, the vendor, and them, the market served)So I thought I’d write about Joe Girard, the worlds most successful car salesman.
Joe did one thing everyday.
It was his way to consistently connect with clients.
He sent birthday cards.
Anyone who had bought a car from him was on that list.
Each card was personalized with a hand written note wishing them the best
and reminding them to stop by or call when needing their next car.As the years went by his list just grew and grew.
And so did his sales until he was flooded with daily orders for cars.
And talk about referrals.
They came automatically.
Whole families got their cars from Joe because he was reaching out every day.
So there you have it. My friend Ryan published an article about this some time ago citing that Joe sent as many as 13,000 cards per month to create relationships and bring in the customers.
It works. If you work it.
