Have you ever gotten fired by a client? I have. Here are some ways you can avoid that.

One of the most liberating thoughts I know in the client business is this:
The day you get a new client is one day closer to the day that client will cease being a client.
At first glance, that sentence might not sound all that liberating. After all, who wants to lose a client?
Nobody does. And yet, we all do.
Clients don’t live forever.
For me, that means I can stop acting like they will. I can stop caring if they will. That’s liberating.
Clients come, clients go, so what?
If you feel like clients control you, it’s because you’re afraid of losing them. Stop being afraid and you will be free.
Imagine if you had $40 million in the bank. Would you let a client “control” you? Of course not. You simply wouldn’t care.
You wouldn’t be afraid of “losing” them.
If you weren’t what they were looking for, you’d let them leave. Simple as that.
The key is to act and feel that way even without the 40 million clams in the bank.
Clients are going to leave at one point or another. You can choose to get upset about it or not.
Clients are like money. The tighter you hold on, the more it tries to escape. So just be open and let things flow.
