I have a confession to make. For some reason, I have the tendency to develop an addiction to hard work.
Notice I didn’t say smart work. I said hard work.
Over the years, I’ve gotten myself into quite a few messes where I simply agreed to do way more “hard work” than I should have.
My definition of hard work is work that’s outside the range of the very few things I do best. When I’m doing what I do best, it’s easy and the results are bigger.
Why did I keep making this mistake?
One, because I’m a nice guy.
Two, because I don’t like saying no.
Three, because I used to seek validation from just about anything with a heartbeat.
I’ve made some major progress on these fronts over the years, but I’m always getting better.
Strategic action is where it’s at. Measure ten times, cut one time. That’s the direction I’m going.
And my life and work with clients reflect these changes.
What was the biggest change I made that’s most responsible for all of the improvement?
I can tell you in two words: A SYSTEM.
I developed a system for “making it rain.”
I developed a system where you invest one unit of effort and often get 10 units of result back.
The biggest recommendation I can make to you is to build a system too. Build a system for attracting clients, a system for working with them, a system for keeping them.
It takes a while to do all that. I’m certainly not done. But I’m far enough along to know it works.
I have a new publication that covers this. It’s only available in one place. You’ll find the details here.
Either way, map out your system and get started building it.
