Disrespecting Your Own Value

If you’re in the business of giving out advice, it’s pretty easy to find yourself giving out a little bit too much free advice to people who aren’t clients.

Maybe it’s the guy who asks if he can “pick your brain” for a few minutes that turn into hours.

Maybe it’s the person who always prefaces their question asking spree with the “I just have a quick question…” line.

No matter how it shows up, if you spend your time dishing out advice for free, two things happen right away:

1. You lose that time that you could have used to do other more valuable things.
2. The advice you give will most likely be ignored as the recipient doesn’t have enough “skin in the game” to make the advice STICK. (So basically, you wasted your time AND their time too!)

But that’s just the beginning. Something even worse happens, over time.

Over time, you eventually lose touch with just how valuable your advice actually is.

If you disrespect the value of your advice, it won’t be too long until that behavior messes with your head. It will create a shift in YOUR OWN perception that will be extremely difficult to fix. And the rest of the world will treat you and your advice just like you do.

The Platform is one solution to this. The Platform provides a very clear line between free and non-free.

It gives you a simple “out” whenever you are asked for free advice. You can avoid the blatant “I’m rejecting you” feeling and simply direct your prospect to another resource: your Platform.

“I don’t have time to discuss this now, but these are the exact situations I cover in my {newsletter, podcast, blog, articles, etc.}.”

The Platform Lab beginning November 3 is starting to fill up. This will be the last one for the year, so don’t miss out if YOU want to finally put the power of a Platform to work for you.
