Climbing Your Mountain

There’s something about imagining yourself getting to the top of a mountain that is just plain exciting.

The “mountain” can be anything, of course. It can be an income goal, a certain type of client, a featured article in a magazine or other industry journal. It can even be a real mountain 🙂

We all have our mountains. And we all dream about getting to the top.

That’s why we start. Starting is exciting. In fact, it’s the MOST exciting!

That’s why so many people do it.

But then you look over at the other guy and see he’s climbing with the latest and greatest equipment. You look at what you’ve got and well… you realize this might be more challenging than you thought.

Then you cut your hand. You should have seen the bush sticking out of the mountain but you didn’t. And now you’ve got a bloody hand.

This complicates things. And yet you push on. Because there’s going to be no greater feeling than to get to the top of the mountain. You’re finally starting to make some progress and you can just feel how great it’s going to be to reach the peak.

Then it starts to rain. The sun goes behind a cloud and the temperature drops to a chilly level. And the wind picks-up.

All in all, it’s a bit of a miserable situation.

The climbers to the left and to the right decide to call it quits. Their dreams of a cup of something warm overpower their desire to get to the top of the mountain.

But you’re not going to quit. Because you’ve waited your entire life to get to the top of this mountain. To you, achieving this success is worth any cost.

And then you get there. You’ve done it. You’ve achieved the success you’ve always wanted. And that’s when it hits you. That’s when you realize that…

Success is underwhelming.

After a while, you start to think that “having gotten there” isn’t nearly as fulfilling as the process of getting there was.

That’s weird.

The top of the mountain is where the successful people get. And the view from the top of the mountain is absolutely beautiful. So what’s wrong?

The people on the top of the mountain know something about their situation that the people climbing the mountain don’t know, can’t see and might not even want to discover.

And now you know it too. Because you feel it. You’ve set out to do what you dreamed about doing. And now you realize that not much has changed. You’re still you.

You look down at the people just starting to climb the mountain. You start to wonder what will happen when those that reach the top realize what you’ve just realized.

Knowing what you know NOW, would you go back to the bottom of that mountain and start over? If not, why not choose a mountain where you could answer that question with a resounding YES?

It’s about the climb. When you love the climb, you don’t put off satisfaction now in exchange for some later. You get to enjoy it each and every day you choose to get out there and take another step on your journey.

Just a few hours from now, the April Edition of The Rainmaker Letter is going to hit inboxes.

In this issue, you’ll hear an interview about someone’s climb up his own mountain.

In the past few years, this mystery gentleman has gone from charging about $750 for a project all the way up to his current project fees in the $30,000+ range. In the interview, he talks about how he did it. Plus there’s a ton more…

The Rainmaker Letter is the biggest “getting clients” value out there. Right now, it’s $99 for an entire year.

You can get all the details here.
