The Client Letter

There’s an interesting phenomenon in the business I’m in called the “It’s Not You, It’s Them” Effect.
I didn’t know about this as early as I would have liked, so I fell for it a few times.
Here’s how it works:
You work with a client on Project X… the project launches and it flops. You think you suck.
Then some time passes…
You work with another client on Project Y… the project launches and it’s great. You think you’re awesome.
The roller coaster continues like this and you wonder what the h*ll is going on. One day your life is great, the next day it seems like nothing works.
This is where the “It’s Not You, It’s Them” Effect comes into play. When you’re dealing with the right “Whos” in your business (i.e. who you work with), everything is better.
Better fees, better terms, better projects, better people.
It’s about the Who.
Who are your Whos down in Whoville? Are they the right Whos for you?
It’s easy to complain about crappy clients as if you have to work with them. No one’s forcing you. It’s your decision.
Take a look at your clients. Are you working with the right Whos?
Most of the Whos who live down in Whoville,
are not the right Whos to be working with you.
Choose your Whos carefully, take time and be smart,
Choose your Whos wisely, so they’re right from the start.
Your choice of Whos will make or break your success.
The right Whos bring cheer, the wrong Whos bring stress.
