Last week was the first time I ever got clobbered with a stick. The teacher I’m studying Eskrima with is getting more serious as the weeks go on.
Now when I say clobbered, I mean CLOBBERED. It hurt.
The bruises will heal, but me thinks the lesson’s gonna stick (punny isn’t it?).
And what did your humble Editor learn?
He learned there are only two ways to play any situation.
You can play to win, or you can defend yourself against someone who is.
You can either play offense or you can play defense. Defense stinks and here’s why:
When you’re playing defense, that means your moves are being dictated by someone else.
This is a perfect way to make sure you are in NO danger of ever actually getting where you want to go.
You DO know where you want to go don’t you?
I sure didn’t… not for a long time. And that severely complicated things.
Lack of clarity makes this thing we call business much more difficult than it needs to be.
Set your goal, chart your course and run like hell.
When you know what you want, you play offense all day, every day.
And that’s how you win.
