In the coaching work I do, the actual path we walk is probably best described as “all over the place.”
Everyone is so different that the specific mix must be customized.
For some, there’s a focus on mindset. A focus on bringing that best version of you into everything you do. Often times, the work is at the level of belief. Beliefs aren’t about what you THINK. Beliefs are the software your being runs when your conscious mind is occupied. Consider them an autopilot of sorts. If you don’t watch them and change them, the programs run uninterrupted.
For others, we focus on systems. We focus on taking the core value they provide to the marketplace and building systems that attract, sift, sort and eventually connect that value with the right people.
For others, we focus on the message they are here to share. That means creating a story and reason for being that resonates with the clients they aim to attract.
Given that we humans are fascinating creatures, it’s rare that work is ONLY about systems or ONLY about messaging or mindset. They are all completely intertwined.
For example… most people have been programmed from birth to feel hopelessly incompetent. We all feel it. Not because it’s true, but because there’s an entire WORLDWIDE infrastructure that benefits when we go through life that way.
If that’s what you’re dealing with, there is a ripple effect throughout everything else.
You feel X about yourself, which causes you to see the world in a certain way. From that worldview come the actions you take. This is why you don’t get what you want or deserve but instead get what you believe.
I still remember when I heard Matt Furey talk about something he heard from Dan Kennedy basically saying:
“Many people struggle NOT because they are unqualified for the task. They struggle because they aim high-level skills at low level opportunities.”
When you do that, there’s a total mismatch and there is STRUGGLE. To be frank, it sucks.
Are you doing that? Have you taken the cue from the beliefs you’ve never carefully examined? Have you allowed them to set you off in the direction of opportunities that are not worthy of YOU?
If it makes you feel uncomfortable to even THINK about something not being worthy of you, be grateful that you now have a big clue there is programming you need to rewrite.
Demand better from yourself. Demand better from those you work with.
One thing to remember: you don’t demand by shouting. You demand by example.
