They’re Not Listening, They Don’t Even Remember You’re Alive!

Never underestimate the lack of attention that EVERYONE in the world is directing at you.

We are all completely preoccupied with ourselves 24/7. It’s just the way we’re wired.

You know that thing you’ve been obsessing about today? The issue that you just can’t get out of your head? Well your prospects and clients are doing the exact same thing. Each and every day. (If you truly don’t have any issue spinning around in your head, count yourself lucky. You’re in the minority!)

So if you’re going to break through that kind of noise, you need more than one touch to do it.

This is why I go the route of the Platform. I want to give myself thousands of “at bats.” I’ve been around long enough to know that anything less is just not going to cut it.

I was on the phone with a coaching client yesterday and the discussion turned to print newsletters.

I explained why I CANNED the electronic version of the Rainmaker Letter and went back to a “you can hold it in your hand” PRINT version. (Is it any coincidence that I’ve gotten great feedback about this first print issue? It’s because it got READ.)

After the coaching call, my client sent me a message explaining that his email program had swallowed up the last few issues of the electronic version of the newsletter. The newsletter he PAID for.

He never got it. And even though he wanted the newsletter, it never crossed his mind. He never went looking for it.

Why?

Because he has a life. And he has things to do. And he has people that need him. And my newsletter is somewhere waaayyyyyyyy down there on the list of life priorities. So if I don’t show up, I disappear.

If you have an ego the size of New York State, this little revelation might not be something you want to face: people aren’t thinking about you. If that ruins your day, sorry 🙂

For everyone else, understand that it’s your responsibility to show up in a way that creates impact.

Otherwise, you’re going to be invisible.

One marketing email isn’t going to cut it. One postcard doesn’t even come close! Heck, in my example, we’re talking about a PAID PRODUCT that wasn’t missed.

It’s about IMPACT. Without it, you just don’t exist.
