The Value of Value Not Perceived

Apart from simply having value as a human being, providing value to the world is not something we can really do on our own.
The value must be received in order for it to be realized.
Twitter is a simple example of this. I think it’s a neat tool used in the right circumstances. Customer service is one of them… or using it to pay attention and add to the conversations that people are having about you or your business… that’s another great use for it.
But for real “communication” in general it sucks.
For delivering value, it sucks even worse.
The problem is that no one is listening. So all of the people that are on there trying to “provide value” really are doing it in a vacuum.
They’re trying to deliver value to people who aren’t looking to receive it.
Providing value (which is the basis of all business) requires two parties. It’s not something you can go out and do on your own.
You can’t provide value if there is no one there to receive the value.
That goes for your blog, your marketing, and everything in your business that you feel has value.
If there is no one reading, paying attention or receiving that value, then it is as good as worthless.
You might be creating all of that stuff, but don’t kid yourself into believing that it’s valuable until it’s received.
That means we have to focus just as much on the successful delivery of the value as we do on the creation of it.
