The Miser Within

If you’re going to be in the business of working with clients, you’re going to come in contact with some people who don’t think you’re worth it. Some might even be… “cheap.”

Rather than convince these folks they are wrong, it’s just better to move on. “Next…” is all you have to say. If you have a platform-based client attraction system, there IS going to be a “next.”

But there’s one “miser” who’s even cheaper than your cheapest prospective client. This miser truly doesn’t believe that you should get much at all. Enough to keep you alive maybe, but that’s it!

And worst of all, you can’t really send this miser away.

The reason why is that, if you’re like most human beings, some form of this miser is actually living inside you.

It took me quite a while to understand that the foundation of your future success in just about anything comes down to how you perceive yourself.

As consultant Alan Weiss always says, “The first sale is to yourself.” You ain’t kidding!

Have you bought in to yourself? Or are you still looking for someone to tell you it’s OK?

No one is coming to save you, you have to do it yourself.

Clients won’t pay your fees unless you believe those fees represent a good value. The client takes your lead. They can feel it. Are you leading or are you looking for validation that you’re worth it?

This is about perception, of course. Reality doesn’t really come into play. It’s about the perceived value of what you do and for whom. That pretty much controls the sale.

But we’re all so obsessed with the perception prospective clients or current clients have of us we forget the most important player in the room.

What about the perception you have of yourself? Have you thought about that lately?

Do you perceive yourself as the type of person who should receive fees that are double, triple or MORE what others in your field charge? Or not…

Do you perceive yourself as THE best choice for your clients? Or not…

If you don’t, perhaps today is a good day to think about why you don’t and to get started on the work required to change that.

Life is too short not to be confident that YOU have value to share with the world. Only when you do that will everyone else see what they’ve been missing.
