I used to be pretty immature on the inside. Depending on whom you ask, that might still be the case! But I’m working on it.
When I realized I didn’t want to work for someone else, there were a few years where I went around feeling like I was special because of it.
I AM special, of course. But you are special as well. Just don’t wait for others to tell that to you because they’re all waiting for YOU to tell it to them!
You have to do the work required to discover and KNOW it for yourself. To FEEL it for yourself.
When you KNOW, you don’t have to say.
Looking back, I had a warped view of why “jobs” were NOT something I wanted to do.
Back then, I thought it was a dumb choice because it signified you weren’t cut out to “make it” on your own.
Like I said, immature. It was also extremely one-sided, shallow, naive and a few other things I’ll just not print here in this family friendly publication. Ha!
These days, I view having a job in a completely DIFFERENT way.
Jobs are pre-defined containers for value.
They are pre-defined ways to be valuable to the world, or to a few people in the world.
And what you get paid in your job has not so much to do with you and everything to do with the boundaries of the container that has been labelled the “job.”
This is an entire ecosystem unto itself with unique rules that apply within its jurisdiction. If you choose to be in that world, by all means, do it with your whole heart.
The challenge for many of us is that when we choose to step BEYOND the world of the job, the constructs of that world come along and infect everything we do.
We think there’s a reason that someone can generate $1,000 for an hour of effort while others might only generate $30 or $100.
When you step out beyond a pre-defined container of value, YOU become the artist who gets to paint onto your own canvas.
And every “rule” that we have been led to believe exists was made up by someone just like you, with the very same creative capacity you carry each and every day.
Is there a reason you do not choose to create your own rules? Are you waiting for someone to announce that your rules are OK, and reasonable, and acceptable?
That will never happen.
Are you OK generating many multiples of your current result with no more (and maybe even less) life force than you are using now?
Is that fair to others? Is that right?
Just because you “win” doesn’t mean someone else has to “lose.”
That’s the binary brainwashing talking to you. It was created and installed to control. But it’s a lie because it artificially limits your focus on an either/or proposition.
When you realize these rules are fake, you are free to stare at your blank canvas and create a new set of rules, just for you.
That’s the picture you paint on your canvas. What will that look like?
That’s up to you.
