Which is better, where you’re at NOW or where you’re going?
Ask me that 7 years ago and I would have said, “it’s going to be better where I’m going, of course!”
And boy was I going places! Yahoo! I was on my way. Next year would be great. The year after that, even better! My plans were amazing. My goals were set. Holy cow my future was bright!
But I started realizing something (finally!) along my journey:
No matter how hard you try, you’re never going to be somewhere you’re not.
I know that sounds obvious, but if you look around at the state of the world, it’s clearly NOT obvious. In fact, most of the proof you can find about how people are living shows you that this is one of the least practiced ideas out there.
Setting an intention for the future is powerful.
Living for the future is the opposite of powerful.
Getting excited about the future is average.
Getting excited about the NOW is powerful.
Waiting to be present until “X” happens is modern day slavery.
Being present NOW is powerful.
When you let go of that feeling that’s pulling you to some point in the future where “X” [insert whatever you want] is going to be different or better, you will begin the process of reclaiming your power.
I realized that NOTHING in the future would be materially different that couldn’t be different NOW.
You want to know why?
Because ANY set of circumstances that continue for too long in your life quickly become the new normal. You could be broke, you could be a billionaire. BOTH circumstances are “normal” for someone.
And how you relate to your “normal” is how you transform your life.
You can exercise a shift in perception NOW that is completely independent of circumstance.
That’s the lie we’ve been led to believe: that circumstance will shift perception.
It’s just not true.
You shift perception now.
The uncanny thing is that once you do THAT, your circumstances tend to shift automagically. 🙂
The world would tell you it’s a worthy goal to go out and get what you want.
I have learned it’s far more powerful to learn to want what you get.
When you bring your awareness back to this point of power, to this actual moment you currently inhabit, you then have the power to effect change.
Change isn’t born in the future, it happens now.
