The Effective YOU

I’ve been searching for the “secret of success” for quite some time.

The secret isn’t positive thinking, I’ve tried that. It’s not “massive action,” or getting a lot of stuff done fast. That sounds neat, but you can’t really take “massive” action all the time, can you? It’s just kind of unnatural. And getting a lot done is different than making progress.

It’s clear to me now that the goal is not to be active or even efficient, but effective.

That’s the real secret to “success” in business and in life-if you even want to call it a secret.

What’s at the root of how effective someone is?

It’s not the “HOW.” Two business builders can “do” the same things but have very different results.

It’s not the “WHAT.” Two business builders can aim at the same goal or market and come away with very different results.

The real source of being effective is the “WHO.”

It is more about who they are in the world and how they move through it. What does “who they are in the world” mean? It means how you perceive yourself. It means how confident you are in yourself. It means how well you understand yourself. It means how passionate you are about life. The list goes on and on.

Most of the reasons for how effective someone is in the world are buried below the surface. They are things that can’t really be seen.

If you want to improve your business, make sure you work on that level of yourself. So many business problems aren’t business problems. They are people problems created by people who have not yet figured out how to be effective as themselves.

School doesn’t teach you this. School teaches you how to be effective for OTHERS. So you have to unlearn that by replacing it with something better.

The goal is to be effective. And the responsibility for figuring out how you do this in your own way is 100% yours.
