Taming the Discount Machine

Ever had a client who kept asking you for a deal? Depending on your situation at the time, maybe you felt like you had to “take it” so you could keep the cash flowing.

Well, as annoying as that can be sometimes, there’s a discounting force far more powerful, far more insidious than that.

And wouldn’t you know it, this one lives in your head!

Every couple months, it’s always smart to ask yourself why you’re charging what you’re charging. You owe it to yourself to come up with a good answer for yourself, don’t you think?

If you can’t, then most likely, your biggest obstacle to success has nothing to do with clients who “want a deal.”

The biggest obstacle is between your ears and in your gut.

We all have the voices in our heads. Those are the voices that tell you you’re not worth it, that no one will pay for what you have, that you have to work harder for less.

Those are some crazy voices.

And to be frank, I’m not sure they ever go away.

But when you stand strong in the midst of them and refuse to back down. Well, you can tame them pretty well. They’re still there, but they no longer control you.

Take a look at what you charge. Can you convince yourself you’re doing what’s in your best interest?

Or have you allowed the discount machine to run unchecked?
