The Desert of Arizona
Clear 60 Degrees – 6:40 a.m.
It doesn’t take too long to realize that trying to get picked by prospective clients is a hard road.
This is a path where you lose right from the very first step of the journey.
We do it, because we’re trained to do it:
- School was about getting picked. “If I answer this question how you want it to be answered, will you give me an A?”
- Getting into college is about getting picked. “I hope I act and speak like someone they would pick. I hope they don’t find my Facebook profile!”
- Getting a job is about getting picked. “Frankly, Mr. CEO Sir, my biggest weakness is that I just work so hard and always give my life and soul to whoever is sending me a paycheck!”
- Borrowing money from a bank is about getting picked. “Dear Bank Manager, if you do your thing and create money out of nothing and then trick me into paying back something that never existed plus more money, will you pick me please?”
This single toxic idea is built into every level of the matrix most people call life.
Everywhere you look, you are presented with obstacles that require getting picked by someone other than you to move forward.
If you give credence to this illusion, it can forever keep you from going anywhere. All that’s left to do really is to complain about how no one is picking you. Or you can invest your energy in making yourself acceptable enough (hopefully!) to get picked. Please, please, PLEASE pick me!
When you realize the entire “getting picked” construct was simply a way to control you, a ray of light comes through the darkness.
There’s no reason to convince someone they “have to get picked” to succeed UNLESS it’s actually that someone who has the real power and you need to make them forget it.
Today seems like a good day to stop believing you have to get picked for much of anything. The whole thing is a charade. You can play it if you want. I choose not to.
As Dan Kennedy always asked, “Who certified the certifier?” When you realize no one did, how could you possibly continue playing that game?
My wife recently opened up a midwifery school. One of the most common questions potential students ask is, “Are you accredited?”
“Accredited? You mean, have we been validated by the very same toxic organization that was setup to control and poison the work midwives do across the country? Ummm… no.”
When you’re in the matrix, something like accreditation is a good thing. When you begin to step outside, you realize anyone SEEKING that validation or anyone who is proud to have received it is usually nowhere you want to be! Who accredited the folks handing out the accreditations? Nobody! Game over. Yuck.
When you truly stop looking for anyone to pick you, then you can get about doing real work.
Today is Friday. You were trained that this is the end of the week. Let down time. Go have fun time. For realz?
Maybe… or today could be the first day you stop trying to get picked by anyone. Seems like a good day for that.
You’ve got the power.
