Playing NOT to Lose

The Client Letter

I was reading a blog post the other day and someone mentioned that one of your goals is not to get fired.

Here’s the comment I made:

Good post. You hit the nail on the head in the last sentence. This business is about RELATIONSHIPS. What you did, how well, or by when (aka reality) often times doesn’t matter. Reality doesn’t matter. Your client’s perception of reality is what matters.

And what affects that perception more than anything? The relationship you have with your client.

Just an idea about avoiding getting fired…
I think that instead of making it your goal NOT to get fired, you should think about pursuing a goal you actually want: like a more profitable business tomorrow than you have today.

Play to win, don’t play NOT to lose.

This type of damaging thinking jumps out at me because I’m really good at doing it to myself.

At the very core of this issue is a lack of belief in your own self worth.

If you think that is just new age talk, go ahead and keep doing what you’re doing. But don’t be surprised when you hit rough spots created by nothing more than a simple lack of belief in your value.

Somewhere in the core of every successful person, is the belief that they deserve to be where they are, doing what they are doing.

I imagine some of those people don’t have that belief until they do in fact succeed. But I see no reason why not to have it now. Especially when believing the opposite can create a very large obstacle between you and where you want to go.

If you don’t have a strong belief in your own self worth… a belief that you deserve the best life has to offer… then here’s a question for you to ponder:

Who offered you that belief and why did you accept it as truth?

Find your answer and you will find the path to freedom.
