Moral Superiority

If you were brought up around conservative, “don’t toot your own horn,” kind of thinking, this is probably gonna make you uncomfortable… so let’s jump in!

There’s a very interesting thing I’ve been noticing over the past few years.

When I take action that I see others unwilling to take, it generates a feeling inside of me that I deserve things others don’t deserve.

And then those things tend to show up.

Once those things show up, I receive more energy and focus to do the things most other people are unwilling to do.

This “deserving” feeling grows.

Hmmmm…..

I’ve come to describe this feeling as a type of internal “moral superiority.”

Basically, you’re generating a feeling that you’re “better” than everyone else in some way.

For some of you, I’ve probably just stepped over the line. After all, I know I had it beaten into my being from many sources that having the audacity to think I’m better than someone is just not behavior that is acceptable.

“Pride goeth before the fall,” they say.

Where did pride get such a bad rap? Are you not supposed to feel good about yourself? Is it somehow BETTER to think you’re just a pile of worthless garbage?

What I didn’t share with you yet is that NO ONE ever has to know about this feeling inside you.

It’s not something you share. It’s your own treasure that you simply carry around.

And it makes all the difference.

The truth is, when you are at your best, you ARE better than everyone else… in some unique way.

Now imagine what happens in your life and business if you go around walking, talking and speaking with this type of confidence in yourself?

First of all, the real secret is the action. You must be willing to DO the things others are not.

This kindles the flame of belief inside you. Again, this is a belief on the INSIDE, not about being a jerk on the outside.

You don’t even have to say anything. All you have to do is feel it.

“I am better than you.”

Ohhhh… that statement could ruffle your feathers. It certainly used to ruffle mine. If someone ever gave me a strong compliment to my face, it would trigger my humble reflex where I’d look down and somehow deflect the compliment.

That’s not the reaction of a secure person, that’s the reaction of a damaged one.

You know the funny part about all of this?

This little exercise actually helps you serve the world better. Because it locates in you the BEST parts of yourself and forces them to come out into the open.

I think back to some of the teachers in my past. They meant well, and they were only passing on the conditioning they had received. But me coming out with a little ditty like this would probably have gotten me a stern talk about being “humble.”

Take a look at the world. We don’t need any more humble. We need great people who are willing to do great things in big ways.

You can be one of these people.

Of course the alternative is to spend your life feeling like you suck. But not much good comes from that.

It’s really your choice. Just take this little exercise out for a spin and see what happens.

You will be absolutely amazed at how your clients react to this internal change.

You want respect from them? Then you have to discover how to give it to yourself. And this is one way to do it. Do the work.

P.S. If it wasn’t clear, BELIEF is the secret. Nothing else matters. What you believe about yourself rules your world.
