RE: Living with clients

In this month’s issue of The Rainmaker Letter (just out yesterday), I talk a lot about an area of the client business that you don’t hear nearly enough about.

Everyone wants to know how to get clients. This seems like the most challenging piece of the puzzle.

…until you get clients.

Then you quickly realize that getting them wasn’t the real challenge — living with them IS!

You can’t control which clients come to you, but you can control what you do once they show-up.

And I spent a long time doing a lot of stupid things that not only made me miserable but also limited the results I could deliver.

There are three big areas that cause most of the issues in our work with clients. The areas are money, communication and work delivery.

I’ll focus on one of them here, you can get the rest by subscribing to the letter. (At $99 per YEAR, it’s a deal.)

Ever had a client where they expected you to respond to them as if you had nothing else to do in your life?

Annoying client right?

That’s what I used to think. But I was wrong.

Who do you think is responsible for allowing that client to be annoying? (I’ll give you a minute to run to the mirror and find out 🙂

You brought ’em in, you trained them how to act. The bad news is that once you do the damage, it’s often not worth it to try to undo it. It’s easier to just go get another client.

The good news is that you don’t have to make this mistake ever again.

Think about it, think how you want to change it, make it happen. You are not a slave. The only way you can be one is to act like one.

This is your business, run it the way you see fit.
