When you’ve got something to say to the world, how you say it matters.
- You can say it with power.
- You can say it as though you’re asking for permission to say it.
- You can say it with an attitude that annoys the hell out of everyone.
It’s up to you. That’s the power of the written word.
When you’re operating as an Incomparable Expert, how you say things matters even more than normal.
Because you’ve got a lot riding on how you present yourself.
You can’t really show up and say “Buy this insurance today because I truly care about your well-being.”
That’s not going to help your trusted advisor status one bit. It’ll just destroy it.
The Incomparable Expert has to go the other way.
The Incomparable Expert, the being who doesn’t NEED you to buy today, is actually a situation where power is created through vulnerability.
What happens when you’re secure enough in yourself to tell your clients the truth about something and put yourself at risk for being rejected because of it?
Some people don’t like the truth. They just want to hear something that makes them feel better or reinforces what they already believe.
But that’s not the role of a trusted advisor.
There are ways to communicate in writing that show your power and there are ways to communicate that give that power away.
The surprising part is that the writing is the easiest part of it. It’s the other two parts that can require some real work.
I’m hosting an online event in a few weeks for anyone who wants to get my take on writing like an Incomparable Expert. Details, including what these other “parts” are can be found here.
