The Desert of Arizona
Sunny 52 Degrees
I’ve had some pretty interesting bosses over the years. Some of them were interesting in a good way and some of them were interesting in a not so good way.
When I went out on my own and left the world of the employee, I thought I’d be free of working for anyone.
I was wrong.
The thing I didn’t realize was that even though I was no longer an employee, I still had a boss. And this boss was nuts!
This boss knew all of my weaknesses. He knew how to push my buttons. He knew how to ruin just about every day of my life.
The worst part was, he could get inside my head and turn even the best days into problems.
If you haven’t guessed it yet, this “boss” of mine was me. I spent years programming myself to fail. That little voice in my head that just couldn’t see the bright side of much of anything…
Hey, you just got a new project worth $17,000, paid in advance… yippee!
But the voice in my head would say, “Dang, you could have gotten more… maybe you can do better next time.”
What we tell ourselves about ourselves matters.
Have you taken a moment to be aware of what you’re telling yourself about yourself? My hunch is that you’re probably not even paying attention to most of it.
You are programming yourself and you don’t even know it.
Your mind is a system just like your body is a system.
If you feed your body junk, you look like junk.
If you feed your mind junk, you feel like junk.
But feeding your mind junk is even worse than the physical food. Your body expels crappy food, but your mind doesn’t. It simply runs that program forever… until you replace it.
We are not in control of a whole lot on this spinning planet, but we ARE in control of what we feed our mind.
Maybe it’s time to “clean out the refrigerator” and start serving yourself some different fare?
