One of the perks of having a large family is that eventually, your kids start growing up and becoming a tremendous help around the home.
My 11 year old daughter is in that phase now. And she’s taken (thank God!) to enjoying cooking dinner for everyone. I have to say, the stuff she makes could very well outdo many adult cooks I know 🙂
From chocolate layer cakes to chicken schwarmas to “made from scratch” marinara (apparently, my wife’s Italian genes passed through just fine), it’s amazingly good.
Last night, as she was making BLTs with fried green tomatoes & creme fraiche dressing, I was talking on the phone to a friend about something I want to share with you today.
We were talking about The Platform.
The main point of the conversation was that while the Platform is extremely valuable to attracting business and to demonstrating what you have and what you do, it’s not really the goal.
Let me repeat that: getting your Platform off the ground is NOT the goal, it’s the price you have to pay to play. Getting a Platform working in your business is not the end, it is only the beginning.
But if you don’t have a Platform (newsletter, blog, podcast etc.) working for you and someone else in your space does, I’m not exactly sure how you don’t end up invisible.
Information is everywhere. Competent, even extremely talented service providers are everywhere. Salespeople are everywhere. And they’re all talking… all the time!
But while the supply of all of that has ballooned, the trust and attention required to utilize those things has diminished.
Trust and attention are like gold and diamonds. Are you building them every day, every week?
So where do you find motivation to do the work? Well, you can find it lots of places.
Just yesterday, I was on the phone with a client from the Platform Lab talking about the resistance to getting things going.
You might think there’d be a lot of tech or logistical barriers, but that stuff is easy.
When you REALLY boil it down, there is usually fear hiding there somewhere. It comes in many flavors. The fear of not knowing what to say. The fear of not having it be good enough. The fear of people not liking it.
All of it is valid. Until you realize what it’s doing to the quality of your life. Fear keeps you right where you’re at.
Are you going to allow your fear to keep you from showing the world who you actually are? Is that something you’re going to consider a good move when you come to the end of your journey?
I find thinking about things like that to be quite motivating.
The bottom line is that the Platform works. And the Platform, in addition to being an intelligent way to attract business and clients, is an enormous force for good in the world.
You will help people. Lots of people.
There are people with problems that you are able to solve all over the place. They do not know who to trust. They do not know who to listen to.
They are waiting for you to show-up. It’s your move…
You can’t just show up and say “listen to me.” Unfortunately, enough folks have done that and ruined it for the rest of us.
Now we have to earn it. We can’t just tell them, we have to show them.
If you want to do that, The Platform is the way to go.
The Platform Lab enrollment is open now. If you want to work through this one-on-one, that’s available too.
If you have no idea what you’re about, figure that out too, because THAT’S the signal the Platform amplifies. That’s why I created the Incomparable Expert Transformation. This week only, use coupon code INCOMP4 and receive your Incomparable Expert Transformation for only $497.
If you are looking for more excuses NOT to create your Platform and to start using it to attract clients, and to use it to become a better version of YOU, I’m afraid you’re reading the wrong newsletter 🙂
