The Desert of Arizona
Sunny 89 Degrees
Years ago I went through a stretch where I made daily business building videos for freelance copywriters. I think I did them for quite a while, several months at least. Day in, day out.
Sometimes I did them outside by the chicken coop (during our chicken and goat milking days!), sometimes I drove to the top of a mountain and did them there.
To be frank, it was a lot of work.
Record the video, edit the video, render the video, upload the video and on and on.
And that doesn’t even include the most important part of the whole thing: actually getting people to WATCH the video!
It felt like work, which should have been a clue.
Because of that, and since my face which is clearly made for radio :), it wasn’t the most leveraged use of my time.
But when it comes to writing, things are different.
Per time unit invested, I’m most effective with the written word. I’ve chosen that as my way to reach out to the world. And I shun everything else.
You won’t see me doing videos.
You won’t see me speaking.
You won’t see me doing podcasts.
Just to be clear, I can and have done all of those things… but I don’t do them any more.
I WRITE.
FOCUS is how you drill through a steel door 4 inches thick. You can’t go at that door with a scattershot approach. You need a laser fixated on a single point.
We all have access to our own version of a laser, but with the world as noisy as it is, it’s easy to get distracted.
In the most recent issue of the Rainmaker Letter (which just went in the mail), I talked about the day I discovered my customized “schematic” for how I’m wired to work. Pretty eye opening. And it’s helped me figure out where my “laser beams” are so I can focus on using them.
Everyone has access to this schematic and each person’s is different. I’ve found it to be immensely helpful.
If you want to get this issue, today’s the day to subscribe, otherwise, it’s going in the vault!
