How do you become an authority in your marketplace?
It’s not a huge secret, although some like to make it seem like it is.
No, I don’t think it’s about “faking it.”
My guess is that you’re already an authority, you’re just not acting like it. Or haven’t been acting like it long enough to get the message across.
I was talking on the phone the other week with someone who mentioned me as the authority on client attraction.
How did that happen?
It was actually quite simple. Simple is not easy, mind you, it’s just simple.
Almost 2 years ago now, I started talking about working with clients… every day. A lot of people could have done that, but they didn’t.
And it’s the same in your market, with the clients you are trying to attract.
Who’s talking? Who’s saying something interesting? Who has clear ideas about how things should and should NOT be done?
If that’s you and you’re not making those ideas known in a consistent way, then there’s a huge opportunity sitting right before you.
As the saying goes, “If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.”
We’ll just adapt that a little bit…
“If it looks like an authority, acts like an authority, and talks like an authority, then it probably is an authority.”
And… “it’s probably going to be treated like an authority.”
