A friend of mine who lives in my town died yesterday, leaving his two sons and wife… He wasn’t yet 40 years old.
As you might expect, there is a lot of sadness, grief, wonder, and surprise. No one can really believe it’s real. But it is.
Events like these make me think… a lot. They make me think about how I’m living my life. They make me think how I can do better. Not by the world’s standards, but by fulfilling more of my potential to be me and to give what I have to give.
For many years, I worked really hard chasing something I finally realized doesn’t exist. What I was searching for was other people’s answers for my own life.
I think a lot of people are chasing this.
The simple fact is this: You have a gift to give. You have people you can help. You have lives you can help transform.
How are you supposed to do that though? No one knows. That’s your adventure to discover. That’s the POINT. The point is that you don’t always know the answers right now.
Just understand that there is no right way. No one has a blueprint for you. That’s your job. That’s your responsibility. That is the privilege you get for being you. By accepting that and then acting on it, you will begin to feel alive.
The real work is discovering your path and walking it.
But we’re not taught about that much. Instead, we’re given role models and people to follow and listen to. We’re taught that there is a right answer and that someone outside of you has that answer.
Living with that belief, my friend, is a sure path to misery.
My friend is no longer on this plane, but I look at what he did while he was here and I have to say, he lived life far more than most… he made an enormous difference in the lives of many. And when I look at the gift of understanding he gave me, even as he moved on, I am filled with a sense of gratitude.
There’s business to be done in this world. It’s time to get about doing it.
You have today. Be who you are meant to be. Start now.
