So I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy the entire spectrum of culinary fare otherwise referred to as COMFORT FOOD.
I’m not sure why I’m looking for comfort, but when it comes to food, sign me UP!
The idea of eating a watery vegetable soup is not nearly as enticing to me as a chicken pot pie. Or beef stew. Or clam chowder. (New England, of course!).
When you eat like that, you feel full. If someone sets a plate of food down in front of you at that point, you’ll probably just say, “no thank you” and go on your merry way.
Who eats when they’re full? For most people, food loses its attraction at that point.
This is instructive when it comes to attracting clients into your world.
The media platform is about becoming valuable, in advance, to a specific group of people, and far MORE of them than you could ever serve one-on-one.
But if you really want to help people, you have to be extremely careful about what you’re offering at the free banquet you serve via your media platform.
If you feed someone TOO much, they feel full and they go away…even though their real problems have not been solved.
So timing and quantity are important.
There’s no rule or measurement for this. You learn to strike a balance.
This is why experts who pour out their knowledge onto the page and give it away for free in the form of “The World’s Most Comprehensive Free Article About _______” often see absolutely nothing come of the effort.
When people feel fed, they don’t want to eat more.
If you TRULY want to serve, you have to figure out how to be valuable NOW, via your platform, in a way that keeps people focused on more comprehensive solutions to their problems.
It’s not because you’re “holding back” that you do this, it’s because you understand that the TRUE and COMPLETE solution to their problems is not found in an article or a podcast or a newsletter.
The real solution is found through working with YOU.
