The Desert of Arizona
Clear 52 Degrees
When I started the first iteration of this newsletter years ago, it was called “Client Suck.” While it was funny to some, it was more a commentary on my inner state than anything else.
I was angry. I was frustrated. I was looking for something no one “out there” could give me.
I wasn’t quite at the point in my development to look in the mirror at the person who was REALLY the one responsible for the problems. Instead, I enjoyed the sheer bliss of being ignorant enough to blame someone else!
And so I directed the fires of hell living inside me right at the folks called clients. What a party!
It’s funny now… and sad. But we all have to start somewhere.
And still, the platform worked in spite of me. It worked because it was valuable to people. It’s not that I had a master plan to attract the people I wanted. It’s just that I kept writing until the people with whom I resonated showed up!
According to business rules, that’s backwards. But I’ve found that many business rules are more about making the business person feel in control and “successful” than actually going through life in any sustainable way.
If you find out a way to control everything that happens in your world, give me a call, I’d love to hear about it. For me, I’ve given up achieving that goal completely. It’s a waste of my energy.
What ISN’T a waste is assuming the position of someone people can depend on.
I’m far from perfect, but you don’t have to be. The bar is low enough that the simple act of “showing-up” means something. And that’s where you start… by starting.
Once you get far enough down the path, you begin to see fruit. People start coming to you saying, “I’ve been following you for a while, and I’ve decided you’re the one for me…”
It might seem like you’re just getting lucky. But you’re not. You are simply reaping the rewards of an investment you chose to make first by adding value to the lives of others REGARDLESS of their current interest in working with you.
