If you’re going to do something valuable in this world, you have to be in control of you and stop giving that control up to others.

This is especially important if you have the “people pleaser” gene that urges you to constantly put others before yourself.

One simple way to take control is to “own your time.”

Take a look at my schedule from years gone by and you would see a lot of white. Lots of open space.

If I didn’t have a client call or a prospect call, my calendar would pretty much be open.

When a client or prospect called, I chose the first available time to address the issue.

Running things like this is an exceptional way to spend your life helping other people achieve their goals.

While that’s important, what was missing in that picture were my goals, and time to allow for progress towards them.

Duh.

I’ve wised up. Finally.

With very rare exceptions, I do calls on Tuesdays and Thursdays now.

Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays are reserved for other things. Writing, mailing, or just free space to THINK. Thinking is ultimately what I get paid to do.

Owning my time makes decision making simple. When am I available to speak with the prospect? Tuesday or Thursday.

When am I able to schedule the next coaching call? Tuesday or Thursday. If those days are full, then it’s the next Tuesday or Thursday. Simple.

It takes the pressure off “trying to fit anyone in” and it keeps my focus on moving things forward.

Owning your time is an action verb. You have to exercise your right. You have to make it happen.

Otherwise, you spend your life getting blown about by the winds of someone else.

I can tell you from experience, it’s extremely windy out there. Protect yourself. Pursue your goals. Change the world.

Facebook Q&A starts in about 15 minutes at 9:30 AM EDT. If you have a question about working with clients, then come on over.

P.S. The next issue of The Rainmaker Letter gets released next Thursday. It’s the best “client getting, client attracting” value you’ll find anywhere.
