There’s a hidden drawback with being a solo professional service provider.

It’s not getting caught up in “doing the work” and forgetting to keep your marketing machine going.

That is a problem, but it’s a problem that just about anyone can spot.

The one I’m thinking of is worse. And it has the power to undermine your progress in ways you don’t even realize. You just wake up one day and say, “What the heck am I doing?”

The problem is allowing your world of possibility and the size of your thoughts and dreams to shrink down around your current reality.

As an example, let’s take a guy named John who wants to make an income of $250,000 per year providing his service. At that income level, he and his family would have a way better than average lifestyle and would basically be able to live on their own terms.

John gets started marketing his business and makes some serious progress towards his goal.

But then a few client projects fail to materialize and he runs into a cash crunch. All of a sudden, John’s goal seems a bit out of reach. In fact, all John really wants to do right now is to make sure all of his bills get paid.

In the face of fear, John’s goals quickly snap back closer to his reality–to what he sees around him.

Months go by and John wakes up one day to realize he’s settled for “struggle” and allowed fear and challenge to knock his gaze from his original goal.

From the outside looking in, it actually looks like John got exactly what he asked for. The mistake was that he didn’t remember what he really wanted when things got challenging.

A question for today is, “How small have you allowed your world to shrink around you?”

If your problems and challenges seem bigger than you are, that’s a clue you’ve allowed yourself to shrink.

The good news is that you can fix this.

But you have to remember something.

And that’s why it’s so effective to surround yourself with people who have remembered… remembered just how much we are able to accomplish.

You can do this through books or courses or live meetings or regular mastermind groups. Some are better than others, but something is better than nothing.

Where are you getting stretched and challenged and inspired to see through the limits of your own making? Where are you getting the fuel to act in accordance with where you want to go, not where you find yourself today?

If you need a push, watch this now.
