You Are the Prize

You know those times when you think the client is mad, or unsatisfied, or there’s something wrong that you just can’t put your finger on? Those are the times where it’s easy to flip into “people pleasing” mode to try to right the ship and get everyone feeling good again.

This is an enormous mistake because it’s a visceral response to what is usually an imaginary problem.

The fact is, if a client is working with you, then YOU are the prize. They’ve chosen you out of all of their other possible choices. It is YOU they want.

That’s a nice feeling isn’t it? To be in demand? To be wanted?

This is the feeling from which you act. This is the feeling from which you speak.

You don’t have to remind your client about this, you just have to remember this yourself, and then act accordingly.

You’ve been trained your WHOLE LIFE to feel like you’re less than. You’ve been told by most every institutionalized religion that you suck. That you’re broken UNLESS you do certain things to make up for your shortcomings you had nothing to do with.

And we wonder why people have self-worth issues.

It’s been programmed into you on every level.

So it takes some work, if you choose to do it, to undo this indoctrination.

Clients are a good opportunity to practice.

You are the prize. They chose YOU.

No matter what the circumstance, remember that. Remember that feeling because it can help you refocus and recenter when the road gets a little rough.
