What Not To Quit

I’ve quit a lot of things over the years. Early on, quitting was a big deal. The reason it was a big deal was that I was willing to “chameleon” my way into becoming whoever I needed to be to have something work.

When it didn’t work, it felt like I had a lot to lose. And it took a lot of energy and work to recreate something and someone brand new.

But I had it wrong.

My lack of understanding of ME meant there was no continuity throughout all of these experiences. It felt like I was making it all up each time I tried something new.

These days it’s different. I know who I am. I know why I’m here. The rest is just details. Details come and go. Sunny days come and go. Storms come and go.

Quitting doesn’t mean the whole world crashes, it simply means YOU stop doing something and possibly start doing something else. The rest is your story about it.

The important thing NOT to quit is who you are. You can’t really, but some of us spend a lot of time trying! Who you are is the important part, not what you are doing.

The world trained you to think that what you do is more valuable than who you are.

“I want to DO something with my life” feels far more valuable to us than saying “I want to BE here fully in my life.” Many people will laugh at that second statement as their training kicks-in with the question: but what are you going to DO? Ha. We humans are crazy.

Now I know I was trained NOT to believe that my being has been around forever. But I’ve jettisoned that brainwashing designed for me to hand off my will to another and moved on to something that actually serves me.

So if I’ve been around for eons, if my real essence has been here the whole time, then I’ve been starting, stopping, quitting and beginning anew for a very long time.

If you can separate yourself from that story you have about yourself, even the one you’re telling yourself TODAY about everything that’s not the way you want it, then you can develop this inner calm (wholeness really) that you can carry with you every moment of every day.

With that, you can reorient your perspective on what’s actually important here.

Everyone you come in contact with will feel that calm. And once you see how that changes people, you’ll realize there are some things you’ll never want to quit being.
