Even decades later, I can still conjure up what it felt like to be called out by the teacher in grade school.
It was 7th grade I think where I got a “silent lunch” punishment for tossing a pencil to a friend who needed one.
The teacher had a strict “no throwing pencils” policy she told us about in conjunction with some horror story of someone getting their eye jabbed once.
So there I was, Mr. Perfect Student, the little golden boy, getting in trouble for trying to help someone who needed a pencil.
And so it goes in “the system,” where up is down and down is up. And where the ultimate goal is to completely SEVER your ability to act, think and live as a UNIQUE and independent individual.
If you were subject to the brainwashing of “the system” growing up, then you probably have this embedded deep within you.
Why do you think it’s so hard for you to figure out what makes you different in your business?
It wouldn’t be hard, except for the DECADES of training you’ve received that makes you blind to it.
In the system, there are no rewards for different. In fact, in order to do the bidding of the powers that be, compliance is far more valued than independence. “Get in line, quiet down, listen to the teacher/authority, do what you’re told, don’t be different or people will make fun of you…”
Think back to your “training,” when were you EVER rewarded for independent thinking and acting?
This “compliance training” is all well and good if you never leave the system (actually it’s quite evil and luckily coming to a quick and brilliant end… I can’t wait), but when you get out into the business world, “blending in” is a death wish.
Blending in has some horrible consequences. You have to haggle over fees. You have to compete for clients. You have to make concessions to “get the business.” Basically, you have to run around in a mad dash with all of the other service providers trying to get noticed.
