The Magic of Boring

One of the strengths of the media platform powered business is that you don’t need to generate clarity on demand in order to make progress on demand.

When you get the clarity you need to make a change, you can “change the bathwater” without throwing out the baby. But before that point, you’re still publishing the platform.

The media platform is the glue that holds your world together. It offers the world value first without demanding anything in return.

You want a good name for that publication, a name and supporting big ideas (what you stand for) that slowly communicate what you’re about over time.

This can take a while to develop and refine, even with help.

What do you do in the meantime?

  • You get started anyway.
  • You start with the “wrong” name.
  • You start with the “wrong” logo.
  • You start even though you might be helping people that aren’t your “ideal” clients or customers at first.

You might be thinking that “massive action” is what this is about.

NO, that’s not what I recommend.

Filling your to-do list with “massive action” just wears you out.

I’m talking about focused action, repeating the very same activity over and over again.

Publish, listen, think. Publish, listen, think.

In music we call repetition like this practicing.

In business, I don’t know what they call it. A lot of people would probably call it boring!

But it’s the path to mastery if you can shift your perspective enough to be grateful for it rather than impatient about it.

Conscious, deliberate, focused repetition.

Why can I completely shift someone’s world in the span of a 30 minute phone call?

Because that’s what I’m wired to do and I practice it almost every day of my life.

The same thing, over and over again, with attention given to each moment.

The point isn’t to get “done,” it’s to explore ever deeper levels of meaning and truth.
