I was on the phone the other day with a guy talking about something completely unrelated to business when he said something you don’t hear very often. He said, “I don’t believe in fear.”

I always find it so refreshing when I bump into people who have their *)(&^ together and are able to make statements like that.

Now I definitely know fear exists because I’ve experienced it for years. A few years ago, it was everywhere in my life. It drove most actions I took.

I’d wake up and be fearful…

I’d spend my days in a fearful state…

And I’d take action from that position. These actions would be conditioned automatic reactions instead of conscious choices.

What was I scared of?

I was scared of “being found out.” I was scared someone would find out I really wasn’t as “good” as they thought. I was scared someone wouldn’t like me. I was scared that I’d get in “trouble” for breaking the rules. I was scared someone wouldn’t like my work.

I look back on my life as the fear guy and I’m not sure who he really was. He surely wasn’t the REAL me. I’m only beginning to scratch the surface on who that person is.

I was powered by fear. I had a fear propulsion system I guess you could say.

Fear can kill you in this business. Prospects can smell fear. And when they do smell it, it reminds them of their own fear… and they will run for the hills to get away from that.

People are attracted to people who have mastered fear. It makes them feel comfortable. It gives them just a bit of solace in their own storm.

BE that for your prospects. It will pay off for you and it will pay off for them.

The good thing about this is that most of us get opportunities to practice mastering fear every day. I’ve already had one or two this morning.

Things happen, circumstances appear and they present you with a choice. You can allow the fear to paralyze you. Or you can allow the fear to remind you that YOU are the one in control of your life.

When fear stares me in the face, I like to remind myself that I’m GONE in about 60-70 years. I will cease to exist as I am now. Poof.

And although I like to consider myself “important,” my entire life is really little more than a blip in the cosmic timeline.

What I’m saying is that there’s not much that really matters. It’ll all be over soon.

If that’s not a reason to live with the accelerator “pushed down to the floor,” I don’t know what is.”

Living your life and growing your business propelled by fear will attract more of it to you.

Allow yourself to take action based on your fears and you will attract others who do the same. I don’t believe you want clients like this.

The mastery of fear is a never ending process in my experience. There are levels, hills to climb and plateaus that will challenge.

Don’t worry if fear accompanies you on your journey. Getting RID of it isn’t really the point.

Mastering it, packing it in your suitcase and continuing on your journey is the point.
