The Exception to the Rule

For being such a rule follower for much of my life, I’m sure making up for lost time!

But we all learn at our own pace. And some of us take decades. But when we finally get it, watch out!

Looking to next year, I imagine you’re going to hear a lot of people explain that if you do the same things you did this year, you’re going to get the same results. They usually tell you that right before they try to sell you something.

And I guess that principle does apply to many things.

But there’s an exception to the rule.

And that exception is the media platform–a strategically designed podcast or newsletter or something that helps people and helps you at the same time.

When you build one, you do the exact same thing next year that you did this year. And the best part is, completely different things happen because of it!

Once you realize there are exceptions to the rules, then you begin to wonder how many. And then you start to really wonder how many rules you’re following without even realizing they’re subjective rules.

If you thought they were absolutes but they’re just rules, that means there are exceptions to those too.

And then you realize that almost everything you’ve been told forever was ultimately made up by someone else, very much like you, with two legs and arms (no offense to any ETs who are involved).

And then you get to a point where you wonder what the hell people are doing having their lives controlled by all these rules that are really opinions?

It’s a slippery slope. And if you go too far down the slope, people start calling you dangerous.

But what’s life for? It’s for experiencing out loud, to the fullest and best of your ability. Have no fear.

That’s my plan for the New Year.
