Scared to Death of Discounts

I had a phone call with a coaching client yesterday who asked about my opinion of discounting services, giving scholarships etc.

He was coming off of a successful live event and ran into this issue at some point along the way.

Had he asked me this a few years ago, I would have been a good sheep and regurgitated the “expert” advice that this erodes the perception of you in the marketplace.

I would have launched into some eloquent diatribe about how damaging this approach could be to what other people think about you.

Basically, I would have perpetrated the fear-based approach of being scared to death of “lack,” from which this type of thinking flows.

Trying to manipulate the perception of you because you’re SCARED of what people might think and do if you didn’t manipulate things is silly and weak. It is not a sign of intelligence or marketing savvy, it is a sign of fear and an enormous growth opportunity that’s staring you right in the face.

When you are in charge of your business, you are free to do as you choose. If you choose to help certain people by offering additional consideration, without which they would not be able to work with you, that’s your choice.

It’s the energy behind the decision that creates the future, not only the action.

You can SELL with an intention to screw someone and you can SELL with an intention to transform someone’s life. It’s the intention that changes, nothing else.

The best way to master the material is to develop the discipline to never be ruled by your fear of lack.

This is a choice, nothing more.
