You see the craziest things in this game called business.

With one client, I saw that adding social proof to optin pages made conversions plummet. Sorry Gurus! Proof BACKFIRED.

With another client, I saw that adding a real salesperson on live chat had the same effect. Killed attraction. Turns out that “want to chat?” was a great way to scare people away.

There are sometimes where you DON’T want to mess with what’s going on in your prospect’s mind. They have a picture they’re pursuing. And depending on how you interact with that, you can bring their progress towards you to a screeching halt.

This seems to be even more important the more systematic your attraction systems are. The systems do the work, unique human interaction can often mess that up.

Human beings mix up a very special recipe of emotional ingredients and rational ingredients when they’re buying something.

The buyer knows what the mix is, but no one else does.

Sometimes, it’s just best to have the humility to keep your mouth shut and watch the magic happen.

Yes, there are certain business fundamentals that hold pretty true across the board. But past that, who knows? We’re dealing with human beings here. Anything can happen.

The most valuable skill you can have is to make no assumptions and just watch.
