RE: Doing it badly

“If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing badly.”

Take the Platform, for instance. (A platform is a fancy name for a newsletter, a podcast, a blog, a video series or some other publication you put out into the world on a consistent basis that demonstrates the value you offer to the world.)

It’s something that’s worth doing badly at first. Can you ever go wrong making a well intentioned attempt to add value to the lives of others?

But again (do I sound like a broken record yet?), that’s not how we were trained.

We were trained to get things right, remember? Right according to someone else.

Not so with the Platform. There is no RIGHT. There’s no pop quiz, no test, no end of year final. This is life, real life.

That’s where you actually make up your own rules and take action based on your own internal compass. Once you get into that habit, you become unstoppable.

You can build whatever you want. You can help whomever you choose.

But actually setting sail is the first step. You don’t want to sit around for the rest of your life trying to “think” yourself to the perfect solution.

The answers you seek come in the DOING. You have to do in order to learn.

If you don’t have a Platform up and working for you, for goodness sake, ask yourself, “Why not?”

The real world is completely different than school. School is training for factories, not for life.

In school, not knowing how to do something is a justifiable excuse for inaction. In fact, that’s what they’re waiting for. That look of “I don’t know what to do, please tell me what to do.”

There are plenty of people paid to tell you how you should do something according to them.

In real life and in business, not knowing how to do something is a clue that’s EXACTLY what you should start doing 🙂

How else do you truly learn?

So who are you going to help today?

If you can’t think of anyone, I’d suggest you begin with adding value to the lives of your prospective clients.
