Do Or Do Not

From my perspective, there are two main types of beings here on this planet. These two types extend across all races, colors, creeds and economic strata.

The two types are:

The Dos and the Do Nots

The Dos DO things. The Do Nots do not do things.

One type of being is not superior to the other, by the way. But the differences often create friction between the two groups.

And while I’ve seen proof that a Do Not can transform into a Do, I can’t recall one example of a transformation happening the other way, from a Do to a Do Not.

“Do Nots” seem to get very bothered with the Dos from time to time. They are quick to comment, quick to criticize, quick to direct the gaze of their non-doing selves at someone who is actually doing. For some reason, they feel that a “Do” has the interest and time to hear why the actions or words of the Do have offended the Do Not. As if anyone is capable of offending another without their explicit permission.

If you are a Do, then expect to come across a Do Not every now and again that is happy to tell you everything he thinks about you.

If you are a Do Not, then expect to get ignored, on a regular basis, by the Dos of the world. It’s not malicious and they aren’t out to get you. They simply have too much to DO to include you.

Now you can make an argument that the “Dos” of the world are the ones that get places and make things happen. But I think that’s up for debate. After all, we’re ALL headed the same place. So we don’t really ever get anywhere at all.

The Dos, however, are special for another reason.

The Dos of the world provide the energy that can transform a part of the world from what it is today to what it is CAPABLE of being tomorrow.

The net result is a world left better than it was found.

Do Nots would be capable of offering a similar service to the world except for the fact they are usually focused solely on how things SHOULDN’T be as they are. This leaves little time for doing the work required to make things as they COULD be.

Do or Do Not…

That is the question.
