All Roads Lead to Rome

Three things I know to be true:

  1. Trying to control human behavior is a losing proposition.
  2. Trying to control the timing of that behavior is also a big challenge.
  3. Trying to force someone to do something when or how you want it done does not build your position as an Incomparable Expert, it degrades it.

This is why we build a client attraction system that elegantly and organically allows decisions to be made.

No one ever looked at the train coming up to the platform and yelled, “Stop trying to get me to live my life on YOUR schedule! You’re such a control freak!”

Why not? Isn’t that exactly what the train is doing? Of course. But it’s doing it out in the open. And it doesn’t get annoyed when its passengers don’t conform. Those people simply aren’t passengers.

This is how I think about client attraction.

It’s a little bit like those marble mazes that kids play with. The ones where you put a marble in at the top of this big structure and it slowly winds its way to the bottom. There might be multiple paths, trapdoors, and other neat contraptions along the way. But eventually, no matter which path the marble chooses, it eventually gets to the bottom. (Some marbles hop the track and are never heard from again, by the way. So be it.)

This result isn’t by chance, of course. It’s planned that way. Because the marble can only travel on track that is there. So someone was thinking ahead as they put the thing together. All roads lead to Rome, as they say…

When you have a system where you’ve actually done the hard thinking (and experimenting) so that it gently brings clients to you, then you can begin to trust.

Does anyone get all anxious when they put that marble in the top of the maze? Will it make it to the bottom? Will it get lost? Will I ever see it again? No. I’ve never seen anyone have a panic attack. Because the system is built in a way where you can SEE the obvious result that will occur.

Now I didn’t say this was always easy. After all, we have an infinite number of things that COULD go into our system. So sometimes it takes some work to figure out which ones belong.

One thing that is always there is the media platform. If you don’t have one, create one. If you don’t know what I mean, this will walk you through each step. This process has been refined and tweaked over years. It works. And I’m making it available again. The thinking required might hurt your brain for a little. If that happens, it’s a good sign 🙂
